Our Hotel Investment Management course is designed to help you understand the owner’s perspective when running a hospitality business. Learn how an owner or investor looks at a hotel. Examine the interests of investors or operating companies who sit above the General Manager. Examine financial reports with the owner’s eyes and understand their view on costs, driving top line and profits.

The course has assessments throughout which are designed to gauge your understanding and application of course material. We employ a mix of written exams and practical evaluations aligned with industry standards.

  • Role of the Asset Manager in the hospitality and wider real estate context
  • Structure and sectors of the global hospitality industry
  • Overview of how the market is segmented and what drives the segments

Module 2 – Understanding Key Stakeholders

  • Real estate investors
  • Operating Companies including white label operators
  • Franchisors
  • Multiple stakeholders
  • Managing stakeholder relationships

Module 3 – The Owner's Focus on Top Line

  • Managing rooms inventory using market information
  • Non room revenues: F&B, catering, conference and events, spas and other ancillary revenue areas
  • Business segmentation strategies – key drivers, PACE and cost of acquisition
  • Building the hotel budget for hotel owner's and brands
  • Preparing for Business Reviews

Module 4 – The Owner's Focus on Bottom Line

  • USALI introduction to the operating statements, balance sheet and cash flow
  • Key performance indicators for hospitality operations
  • Revenue indicators for all revenue areas
  • Key cost measures by department
  • Undistributed operating costs
  • Gross operating profit and adjusted gross operating profit
